During the industrial revolution, the wide range of exposure of mechanical hazards began when the different forms of energy were harnessed through the use of various type of mechanical equipment and plant particularly in manufacturing, mining, agriculture, processing and transport industries. The availability of control preventing machine related injuries have changed significantly but the hazards associated with mechanical equipment and plant have not been significantly changed as the development of power machinery since 1800s.
According to National Worker’s Compensation Claims Data, mechanical equipment and plant related claims is 10.9% of all claims for the year 2006-07. Mechanical injury occurred from a various range of mechanism. The moving parts of plant hazards, the most relevant mechanism of injuries related to plant hazards are being stuck or hit by the moving objects with the part of the worker’s body (Payne, T 2012).
