Legislation, Code of Practice and Standard of Handling, Storage and Using of Hazardous Chemical
To manage hazardous chemical is subject to a complex regime of commonwealth and state legislation including the notification of imported or new chemicals, dangerous goods in transport, explosive, poison, pharmaceutical items, narcotics, hazardous chemical in workplace, chemical in agriculture field, hazardous chemical waste and hazardous chemical to environment (Pisaniello, D 2012).
The new work health and safety regulations cover hazardous and dangerous goods in workplace under a single framework for hazardous chemical and introduce a new hazard communications and classifications based on the United Nations’ Global Harmonised System of classification and labelling of chemicals. The classification criteria of hazardous substances specified in the approved criteria for classification hazardous substances [NOHSC: 1008 (2004)]. The dangerous goods classified under the code for the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail (ADG code). This code contains a list of substances those are classified as dangerous goods. Combustible liquids are captured by the state and territory workplace dangerous goods storage and handling laws. The Australian standard AS1940 (The storage and Handling of flammable and combustible liquids) contains a list of liquids those are classified as combustible (Safe work Australia 2014).
